Oakland Tribune reporter Sean Maher had his farewell party on September 20th.? A week later, the City of Oakland announced that Maher, who worked for the Trib as the Oakland city hall reporter before moving to cover Contra Costa news, was joining the Mayor's Office as her Director of Communications.

Maher, whose Twitter handle is @OneSeanMaher, reported on breaking news stories in Oakland, including 2011-2012's Occupy Oakland stories.? Maher was the reporter, in fact, who broke the story of Oakland City Council woman Desley Brooks camping with others at City Hall in the first days of the protest.

Announcing his new role on Facebook today, Maher said, "I'm grateful for all my years at the Oakland Tribune, but am also thrilled beyond words to be taking a new direction and finding a new way to show my love for this amazing city."

Of course, up till now, Maher has expressed this love as a San Francisco resident. Do you think the Mayor's communications director should live in Oakland?
